Hello everyone.
I decided to make my first real post on the topic of minimum wage, basically because this is a pretty hot topic right now. The recent change in power in the house has brought something like five bills already. I believe there's a couple on the cutting of funds for the war, but what I want to focus on right now is the one that raised the minimum wage incrementally over the next five years. I do not understand this. Why are the democrats so in favor of a raise in minimum wage? They play it off like they're looking out for the poor and not letting the mean big businesses take advantage of their willingness to work for low wages, but there's a couple flaws in that argument. 1) I don't have the link to cite this study, but there was a study I just heard about that concluded that less than 15% of workers working for minimum wage are actually at the poverty level or below, and have been there for at least a year. Well guess what, I'm a 21 year old college student working for minimum wage and I would fall in that category! Yet, I have upper middle class parents would would support me if need be. So if you take out all the college students working a minimum wage job, who are definitely living below the poverty level, I believe you'd be left with under 10% of people that are working minimum wage jobs are actually below the poverty level. So who does a higher minimum wage really help? It can't help business owners, even though they do charge higher prices for things after a raise in minimum wage. They still don't come out better than before. It hurts the economy by increasing inflation, and who does it honestly benefit? I guess it would mostly help people like me, who temporarily is living in poverty but won't actually be stuck in poverty like some people. You can't just raise the minimum wage and expect people who are stuck in poverty to somehow get out poverty because of a 50 cent raise in their wage. No, it really doesn't help the people who need the help the most so why act like it does?

All In Moderation
Hello All,
My name is Danny Hendrix, and I decided to create this blog as a way to express my political views, which happen to fall in the shunned category of the political spectrum called, the "Moderates." I believe that 10% of people in America are truly Republican, 10% are truly Democrat, and the other 80% are somewhere in the middle, and are constantly pulled to the right or the left to fit the political discussion. Is it okay to believe in lower taxes and abortion? Is it okay to believe that stopping the tide of illegal immigration is an important goal in America, and also believe in the necessity of welfare? Is it okay to wonder about the discrepancies about the 9/11 attacks without being labeled a conspiracy theorist? I think all of the above are true, but yet they aren't allowed in the present political debate. This post is intended to be an overview of my blog, and therefore I wont delve into any one political topic just yet but I will shortly!
